Hey there! Just reaching out to you as requested by NinjaFatGuy.
I'm Technobliterator from Vanguard just reaching out to you about the Portable Infobox tool. You may have heard of this before, but you can read about its benefits
here and here if you're interested. This is mostly a backend change in which I'll change the code so it's cleaner and shows up better on non-desktop skins such as mobile, but still replicate as much as possible the look and feel of your current infoboxes.
You can see examples of the PI versions of your infoboxes here, and I'd like to be able to do this for all of them. Ninja's basically said he doesn't feel too strongly about it and wouldn't be too upset if they were converted, so if you're cool with it then I think we can go ahead. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
Nope! It should make the code easier to handle and understand, actually, making it easier to implement. For what you want to achieve, there aren't any downsides you need to be aware of. Thanks for taking a look!
Looking at the Portable Infoboxes on a desktop, I don't like the way it looks. The cells themselves are shorter, too scrunched-up, which makes it kinda hard to read at a glance.
Hey guys, just made a few adjustments to it (increased the font size and slightly increased the width between cells). Is it good now, or do you think it needs a few more changes first?
Hey guys! It's been a while, but just checking back in to check again if everything's ok with the current proposal? I know you mentioned the images looked weird for you, though I've checked and it doesn't seem to be a problem for me either. If it's still an issue, I can get it looked into, but otherwise, am I free to go ahead and convert the infoboxes?
The cells still appear to be very tight on my end, especially for the subtitles (i.e. Biographical Information) where descender letters aren't even fully visible. The text also still appears quite small. If it's possible to replicate the PI more closely to the original infobox, I'd be very pleased, although I do agree the current style could be more condensed (slight smaller font/cells). The images appear fine to me.
Overall, I'm pleased with the PI design you have showcased, it fulfills my interest in the PI feature a little more, so I'd be fine with a conversion. However, if the issues I've listed above could be resolved, I'm all aboard.
Hey, I just touched up the PI a little bit - the font size is slightly bigger and there's a tad more spacing between the cells. Hopefully that's all good now, and since everyone seems mostly content with the designs, if there are no more issues I should be able to convert them all soon!
Looks much better but it still appears that the spacing for the subtitle cell is too small to fit descender letters. Not sure if it's a me problem but it isn't pretty to look at. Everything else looks great!
Have been able to start converting now, but just a couple questions before I move on to the rest:
Infobox trophy and a few others have a slightly different appearance from the character infobox (the red background around the subtitles on the trophy infobox, for instance) - do you want to keep that, or can they all look like the character infobox?
Anyway, I've converted (and published live) the ones that seem fine, but those with minor differences in appearance/those with duplicate boxes I've created drafts for but not pushed live yet. Please let me know what you think first and if you have any issues before I push the rest live!
Yes, please convert Infobox trophy to appear like our current design.
For the two comic infoboxes, please only keep Infobox comic as it is used for real-life comics such as American Dreams (I'd like this to be our current design as well), meanwhile InfoboxComic can be removed and merged with the Infobox/Collectible template.
Both Infobox video game and Infobox VG can be merged, it doesn't matter which one is kept but one can be removed (again, update to current design).
Hey! So, I've converted most of the infoboxes except for those that don't have pages on them (you can see the rest here). So you can now delete Infobox VG, InfoboxComic, InfoboxWeapon and InfoboxPendant, as I converted them and fixed all the pages.
The only ones I haven't changed yet are:
9mm Pistol - wasn't sure what you want to do with reloadspeed2 or firerate2?
Any of the InfoboxTrainingManual. To fix up the images, they'd have to look like the Gallery on Infobox/Collectible comic pages as I've updated - you can see an example on Singularity. Alternatively, they could look more like the updated Infobox/Weapon pages with two images, as seen on Revolver. I'll do whichever you prefer before converting InfoboxTrainingManual.
Let me know and I'll finish up, and if you have any questions related to infoboxes, CSS, HTML and the like in future, don't hesitate to drop me a message!
Alright, thanks, it's all looking good. I'll begin doing some housekeeping with the articles and fix up some things. As for the training manuals, we'll actually just use Infobox/Collectible for Training Manuals rather than their own template.
