  • Ignoring whether or not you want a movie to be made, who would you want to play Joel, Tess, Ellie, Marlene, Bill, etc.? Hugh Jackman could be good as Joel. Maybe Sean Penn as David? Sonequa Martin (Sasha from The Walking Dead) as Marlene? Jason Statham as one of the Pittsburgh hunters or a QZ military guy? Uma Thurman as Tommy's wife? Ellen Page could play Ellie (Lol).

    What are your thoughts?

      Loading editor
    • Maybe even Matthew McConaughey as David? He got really skinny for Dallas Buyers Club and really rough-looking for True Detective'. He could probably pull it off.

        Loading editor
    • I highly doubt Ellen Page would ever sign up to play as Ellie, considering how she was pretty pissed that Naughty Dog used her face without permission.

I'd say Viggo Mortenson as Joel, except he's too "nice". You'd want an actor who is known for his tough and gritty roles. Hugh Jackman is...too much of a pretty boy for me. I really like the idea of Sean Penn as David.

Maybe Jaden Smith as Sam, although he's getting a bit old for the role and after his performance in After Earth I kind of never want to see him act in anything again, ever.

        Loading editor
    • Hugh Jackman was really gritty in Prisoners, though. And in the first part of Les Miserables, too (minus the singing). And he's Wolverine. I think he could do it.

Yeah, I never watched After Earth, but it seemed pretty bad.

I also like the idea of Carrie-Anne Moss as Tess.[1]

    • I think this actress could possibly play a good Ellie [1]

And actually, I could see Matthew McConaughey as Tommy

    • I don't know. I prefer unknown actors. :)

    • @ W.C. 141.225.74.23, Ok I just saw the list of actress who could play Ellie. I think Cloe Mortez is the best actress for Ellie. I like how they have a black actress, I forgot what her name was but she was number 6 and didn't discriminate. I know a lot of people will say she can't play Ellie because of her race but I think it is interesting. She can play Riley; she looks exactly like her. Hey can you find a list of actors who could play Joel, please? :)

        Loading editor
    • Indeed she is,have you seen the movie trailer of If I Stay? Chloe looks pretty much like Ellie, plus,in the trailer, she got that brown hair of hers,so she's pretty much identical to her.Anyway,I choose McDermott to play Joel,he's pretty awesome to be a Joel and I guess I'll choose Carrie-Anne Moss as Tess.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, it'd be awesome if they could find really good unknown actors who could play these characters well. I don't really know of any obscure actors, though. Hopefully the film crew will have a good casting director.

I also liked that they put that little girl from Hunger Games on that list. I never would've guessed her. Thinking outside the box. She might could be a good Ellie if she were older. Also, she might be too nice for Ellie, but I bet her acting range will expand as she matures. She'd have to be even older to play Riley. Ellie is 14, and Riley was a few years older.

I still like Hugh Jackman as Joel. He's just the right age that, with some makeup and special effects, he could play both the younger and older Joel's. And he's a really good actor. I also like Viggo Mortensen, but since he's already done a similar role in The Road, Joel should probably be played by someone new to the post-apocalypse genre.

What do you guys think of Sasha from The Walking Dead as Marlene? They look a lot alike. I think Marlene is older than she is, though...so maybe an older actress. And what about Uma Thurman as Tommy's wife? They look almost exactly alike to me. And they're both tough. Who else but a lady samurai could be the head of the pioneering hydroelectric community? And what about Jason Statham as a militant guy? If they make it into a big action movie, someone like him will probably wind up in it. I could picture him as the Firefly Joel kills at the hospital or a QZ military officer or one of the main hunters [1]

    • How about just Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson? I feel like everyone else is judging their casting decisions largely based on what the actors look like, but I feel like the way the character looks doesn't really matter that much. What matters most is how the actors feel and sound and really represent the character, and no one is going to be able to do a better job of that than Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

Yeah, but then suddenly Joel is not much than 8 years older than Ellie... Elie would be grown up (Ashley Johnson is in her early 30's). And the whol timeline wouldn't fit anymore.

It is true that they have the perfect voices for Ellie and Joel, but appearance does matter a lot.

    • I guess they couldn't (Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson) unless the movie is animatic like Resident Evil Damnation or something like that.

    • Joel = Hugh jackman - seems a perfect fit

Ellie = maisie Williams - would work well and has been tweeting Neil drukman and Ashley Johnson saying she wouldn't say no to the role...

      Tess = ?

      Bill = ?

Tommy = brad pitt... - maybe, I mean he fits the part perfectly but not much chance

Sam & henry = will & Hayden smith - not a big fan of these people personally but the relationship between the two would be well put out I suppose

Marlene = Halle berry - personally think she could be great for the role

David = Vigo mortessen - David is a strange character for me in the sense that I think he is just Joel on another side (and a bit creepier) but in the sense of him maybe not wanting to play Joel on account of it being too similar to the role he played in the road it'd be a good shout

      Sarah = ?

      That's my thoughts anyway

        Loading editor
    • I never seem the movie "Prisoners" but I saw the trailer and I can understand why is everyone think Hugh Jackman will be a great Joel. He looks like him , acts like him, and he even dressed like Joel. :) Troy Baker  wanted Josh Brolin to play Joel. What about Ashley Johnson? Did she said anything about who she wanted to play Ellie?

        Loading editor
    • Joel: Hugh Jackman would be a good choice, and he's a big enough name that the studio executives would be happy. Josh Brolin would be my ideal, personally. Texan accent, gruff demeanor and dark sensibilities. It fits.

Ellie: I think the best thing to do would be cast an unknown. If they could find the right unknown actress, of round about the right age, it would be ideal.

Tess: Carrie Ann-Moss is a popular choice and I can see her doing well in what is actually a fairly small, though vital part. She has the grittiness and would lend considerable pathos to the character.

Henry: In a perfect world, Michael B. Jordan. He's about the right age (Henry is said to be 26) and he is a great rising star. He looks and acts quite similarly to the character and would be a good addition to the cast.

Sam: An unknown. It's again, a relatively small part, so having Jaden Smith would be a bit unnescesary (especially since he would probably end up second-billed). An unknown actor would be ideal.

Tommy: Even though he is only in two parts of the game, I think that a relatively bigger name actor, namely Josh Holloway could fit well. He has the nescesary charisma to make the audience like the character and has the right kind of appearance.

Marlene: Gina Torres all the way. Gina Torres to the freaking moon. Everything about Marlene makes me think she could play her well. She's been a memorable and tough prescence in things like Firefly and Suits before, and has the commanding prescence to be sellable as leader of the Fireflies. (Also, side note, I would probably cast her for the unintentional Firefly-pun alone.)

David: David is a fascinating character with a lot of potential directions to go in terms of actor. Two choices I have heard that I quite liked were Gary Oldman and Matthew McConaughey. Oldman has played this sort of character before, but is a consistently reliable prescence and would convey the shift from friendly older man to creepy cannibal well. Matthew McConaughey on the other hand, would be great precisely because he hasn't played this sort of role before. He would be able to sell the charm and warmth he has when Ellie first meets him, and I'm fascinated by the thought of what he could do as a truly psychopathic villain. Personally, my favourite choice is John Hawkes. The character of David reminds me a bit of Teardrop from The Winter's Bone, and he has proven himself effective at portraying warm, kindly old men and he has the right kind of intensity for the role.

      All right. I'm out.

    • I want Chloe Grace Moretz for Ellie, no doubt. I seriously get irritated with all these pleas for Ellen Page... i mean the lady is like 27 now!

It is a little more loose for Joel... i mean i wouldn't mind seeing either Hugh Jackman, Viggo Mortensen or Gerard Butler as the guy. I just don't want to see some big name actor like Pitt or Cruise in the role. Gag! Let them be Robert so he can be pummeled. A new type of role for those overhyped big-wigs.

I think we can some of the original actors for the character roles. Annie Wershig (Tess) can reprise the role, i think. Bill can be played W. Earl Brown again. And i think it would be interesting to see Troy Baker as someone, perhaps Tommy.

I just want the movie to be a long trilogy epic like the Lord of the Rings was... plus Miss Moretz... then I'm happy.

I want to see Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt as Robert, then see him get pummeled and beaten. A new role for these big wigs already... that of a to-be-killed enemy.

      But seriously,

I would like to see either Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortensen as Joel, with Chloe Grace Moretz as Ellie. I sincerely believe that many of the other roles can be done by the same actors... Tess = Annie Wershig... Bill = W. Earl Brown... Tommy could even be played by Troy Baker, as crazy as that sounds. In real life the guy doesn't sound or look anything like Joel, and in fact has more similarity to Tommy in both voice and appearance than anyone else in the game.

The guy who is David also does the voice for Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series... and the two characters don't sound alike at all.

    • I really want to debate over this coz I think that this debate is not bad after the Ellie Riley debate still,I'm confused by people who doesn't want known actors/actresses and unknown actors/actresses,which should we use, most of us knew well-known actors because they were famous and has played in five starred movie we've watched while who knew unknown actors or actresses? They were seldomly used in movies,so how could we suggest some unknown actors/actresses? I mean, would one of you do the audition?

        Loading editor
    • I think all movies should have auditions. Objective auditions, of course. Those lead to better all-round acting and ultimately better movies.

And I say absolutely NO to Ellen Page as Ellie, for the simple reason that she's like, what, 27 now? She's not a teenager anymore, fellas!... it's been almost a decade since she's lived in that time. Chloe on the other hand is like, what, 16, 17? That is MUCH closer, and anyway, she'd look better as Ellie.

Joel has many more options, as there are quite a few good older actors who resemble him. I just don't want no Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt in the role, gee whiz, let's get someone else already.

For Ellie I strongly believe that Maisie Williams could pull it off, she has the personality to get Ellie right.

And for Tess I think that they should just go with the voice actor, can´t remember her name right now, but my vote goes for her.

Amandla Stenberg has to go for Riley if they include her, she´s a crazy good actress if she doesn´t go too soft, Riley is a tough character.

Tommy.. Here I think Josh Holloway would be the best one for him, he has the charisma and the accent. If not Josh then Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Bring those Game of Thrones actors! Haha, but I would prefer Josh over Nikolaj for this one though.

As for Bill, Ethan and Marlene I don´t really mind who they pick, but I would love to see Jerome Flynn as Robert (another one from GoT, but hey, they look almost identical).

Henry and Sam... just don´t go with anyone from the Smith family, pleaasee!

    • Seriously, i hope Neil uses this opportunity to correct some issues with The Last of Us storyline.

      1. 1 I'd like to see more characterization among the survivors. Make them out to be more than just evil people out to kill Joel and Ellie. give them stories of their own. Let them collide with Joel and Ellie's journey.

Personally, i think Pittsburgh had some fantastic potential... a dilapidated city that not only suffered from the Outbreak 20 years ago, but also underwent a revolution against FEDRA. How can this go wrong right? Well, it did. Instead of individualizing the hunters, they make them out to be some big organization under some unknown boss... which i hated. To me, it seemed they did that just so they could give the player a reason to have enemies to fight here.

If anyone looked at the concept art, you'll see that originally it was more or less independent bands of "people" (i say people because everyone is unique), not evil men JUST out to kill our two protagonists (and in the game it's mostly men and i hope they correct that). Based on the concept art, it looks like the city has a community, yes, but not all of the city is tamed or under the control of just one person like the game made it seem.

Another thing, i want more out of the side characters. Marlene. Tess. Henry. Sam. Bill. David. I want to see what happened in between Summer and Fall... and really I just want more to happen to Joel, Ellie, AND everyone else who they come across PERIOD. It worked fine as a game to have killing be the main interaction you have with people, but that doesn't and will never work in a movie... otherwise you have nothing more than another action film (just set in a Post-Pandemic world).

Neil is a great GAME maker, but i hope he gets some real movie-making help, somebody who knows how to make characters and stories on film(Walking Dead anyone?) I also hope they don't go for the stupid Hollywood blockbuster film just to grab money and instead make it into a great series or something.

I've said before that The Last of Us world is better than the walking dead, and i still stand by that claim... but the characterization in the latter series is far better, and i hope to see the movie rise to become TWD's equal or more.

    • I think the film should stay as far away from the walking dead as possible, too many in depth characters will ruin the story the game portrayed so well.

For example the road was an amazing film about two characters and two characters alone, there were other people in the film but no in depth information about them really. You only seen the world from there point of view and there's only... Corresponding with the game.

And as for the clickers/zombies I personally think there should be as few encounters as possible, for example at the start to explain the basis of the story and a few other times to give the audience a freight. But not all the way through the film Seeing them every five, ten minutes could ruin the perception of them to people who havent played the game.

        Loading editor
    • Basically I want the film to spend as much timesbuilding up the emotional attachment between Joel and ellie

    • I just hope Neil studies on the difference between movies and games. He's a fantastic director from what I've seen, so i have faith in this project. But games and movies are vastly different in the narrative, and they cannot be approached the same way.

@Scottish... you know, i guess you're right about characters. Too many would bog down the story... but too little would make it thin. I hope there'll be a good balance, at least a little more time with some of the other side characters like Tess or David.

    • For Joel, I think they should cast Hugh Jackman. I understand where people are coming from when they say he's too 'good-looking' or 'mainstream'--but in all honesty, you have to admit even in the video game world, Joel is actually very handsome, who seemed to only get BETTER with age over the last 20 years from 2013 to 2033--not to mention that both Jackman and Troy Baker are pretty much just as equally mainstream in the different areas of the acting world from their respective audience (voice acting & mo-capping for Troy ; live-action & theatre for Hugh).

With McDermott or Butler, I can't really see the true Joel in them because I can't help but think they've still got that 'youthful, good-genes, no wrinkles' deal going on. Joel is a SURVIVOR--a hard-set, gritty broken soul where you can clearly see it in everything he does. He's seen, dealt, and lived through hardship and stuggle and his mannerisms, voice, even in his ruthlessness, all exemplify that and I think Mr. Jackman could handle that roll without a hitch.

For Ellie, I think it would be best to cast an unknown. Despite most of the fans recommending Chloe Grace-Mortez (Kick-Ass 1 & 2 ; Dark Shadows ; Carrie ; Hugo), I don't think most people would be able to really take her part as Switchblade Ellie seriously and would probably only see the movie as a blockbuster or redbox recommendation. Don't get me wrong, I think Chloe is an amazing actress, given all she's done and all of her success and hard-work she's put in since she was SEVEN, and the qualities she'd easily be able to match with our Ellie Williams, I just don't think it'd be easy for us to look between the two and officially say 'yep, that's her. that's the ellie we were looking for'.

For Marlene, Robert, Bill & Tess, I would surely hope they would actually just use Robin Atkin Downes, W. Earl Brown, Annie Wersching, and Merle Dandridge, whom the characters were actually modeled from. And James? Ruben Langdon.

David would definitely be a tricky one to find, given that Nolan North (his mo-cap & voicer) looks nothing close to him--but I didn't see anybody bring up John Hawkes (Winter's Bone) as a potential David for TLoU.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau I think would be a great Tommy to portray, with Ashley Scott as Maria by his side~.

Joel Edgerton would make an interesting Ethan.

         Hana Hayes for Sarah, hands-down.

Nadji Jeter & Brandon Scott for Sam and Henry. They did do very well in their parts for the game. Nadji may still have a few acting improvements to polish up but otherwise, I never complained either way.

Last but not least, Riley. I think it'd be best to have her as an unknown (given that Yaani King is 32).

Also, I think Troy, Ashley, Yaani and Nolan should all make cameos. Maybe with Ashley and Yaani as a couple that Ellie notices at Tommy & Maria's Town whom reminds her of what likely she and Riley COULD'VE had, with Troy and Nolan as their good friends talking with them? That'd be a great, brief cameo scene, by far.

Very good opinion on Hugh Jackman. I'm with you all the way on that one. To me, he may be mainstream, sure, but he's not overrated... like, say, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Now they are SO overrated. I love Viggo Mortensen(not in a weird way lol). I think he's a great actor and all, and i wonder how he'd do, but I'll admit, Jackman is the best person for the job. He really is.

As for Ellie, #1 i don't see why going mainstream would be a problem. For one, it's contradictory with the want for Jackman (he's much more famous than Chloe). I mean Jackman is famous and mainstream, yet that wouldn't be a problem. Yet Chloe being mainstream and famous is a problem? I don't know. Just sound a little funny. #2 The problem for me about going unknown would be that there's a good chance we'll get somebody who doesn't have the ability. Hopefully they'll do auditions and just hand the part over, but still. Whereas some mainstream actors/actresses get their fame because of their popularity, others get it by their skills. I think Chloe fits the latter.

I mostly agree with all your other choices, but i still want Tom Cruise as Robert and Brad Pitt as Ethan. I want them to be pummeled. I also think we need more time with Sam and Henry, to develop the bond a little more and make the impact of their deaths that much more painful. Same with Tess. We need more of a connection with these characters before we kill them off. Oh, and we need much more time with David. Much more. I hope it'll be done in such a way that the audience will HONESTLY be shocked at the end. In such a way that everyone thinks, "oh! Finally i good guy who can help them..." Then they clench their seats as everything goes downhill.

As for Riley, i don't know, unless the whole Left Behind dlc is gonna get put into the film, i don't really see a need for her at the moment. I mean she was important in Ellie's life, and i definitely think there needs to be some sort of flashbacks to the character early on in the series (hopefully it's a series not some 2-hour dud). But I'm not sure how that could be done. I trust Neil (and whoever he gets to help him with movie-making) will get it right.

As for the couple? Why? I'm curious why we need that. Now, now, please hear my reasons for objecting: What I'm worried about is TLoU movie ending up getting the same DISTRACTION TREATMENT that Left Behind got, where, instead of people talking about parts of the story, they make a ton of sites for Ellie's gayness and the kiss scene. Personally, I would much rather go into the movie's reviews and see people talk about how fantastic the story was, how emotional it got them, how they loved this or that character... rather than see a ton of reviews talking about the gayness of it all. The "boldness". I'm sure it would make gay people going into the film happy, but i would much rather see people rating TLoU for the story or the world or the infected ingenuity, rather than the "boldness and hip" of it, you know? I hope everyone who reads this will understand what i mean, and not jump to conclusions about me. This about the story ONLY, not gays. Honestly, I hope Neil makes Riley a best friend of Ellie's rather than a love interest for the movie... for the distraction reason and ONLY the distraction reason.

I'm glad we have the same choices, though.

    • @Arthas Menethil,I hope the director won't mess it up and make people reviewing the movie with tons of homophobic comment or things like that,I'd be pretty sad if that happens, let's just not be that bold since this is a game that made into a movie and I don't want it to be crushed or played stupidly by the director.Good thinking.

    • Exactly!

Putting aside beliefs on the subject, let's just see this from a movie standpoint. Wouldn't you want to see reviewers talking about the "One of the best zombie series I've ever seen!" Or "Is Ellie Gay?"

Based on the Left Behind reviews, if Ellie is gay in the movie... people will be commenting on her gayness rather than the story. Somehow, i hope Neil reads this.

Not that I'm hatin',but that clearly hurts my heart a lot,I'm officially the biggest fan of this game,if I had to see reviewers said that kind of thing,I'll cry like a bitch. No offense,I love these two survivors and ND and I don't want it to be a fail project like other game movies.

They will not have the time to build up the relationship between Ellie and Riley enough never mind to them kissing each other, trying to cram eeverything in will make the film messy

Don't get me wrong on the whole Chloe idea--of course she is a great actress and having mainstream performers is not necessarily an entirely BAD thing. To me, I just think a lot of the people who've never seen, heard or even been introduced to The Last of Us franchise will just think of Chloe's Ellie and just compare it to Kick-Ass' Mindy McCready and say 'so, it's pretty much just Kick-Ass in the Zombie Apocalypse?' sort of just ruin the essence of Ellie's character where Ellie is NOTHING like Mindy. The two may be very similar in character and mannerisms but Mindy has never endured TRUE struggle like Ellie has besides losing her father because she always had somebody to fall back on where Ellie never truly had that until Riley, and then Joel.

Sorry I didn't clarify with you on that--but if they did decide to choose a well-known actress, I say "Hell Yes!" to choosing Chloe without a second thought.

It's not like I'm asking a huge make-out scene on the terms of Ellie and Riley's scene, but of course I understand your point on the matter of other's potential in getting offended and/or focusing on just that but in all honesty, if somebody's going to watch a movie and only focusing on 'who's with who and getting butthurt all about it' BS then they seriously need to rethink themselves on that matter and what movie genres they decide to watch, lol. Plus, didn't the DLC scene itself already blow up as it is when it was 'revealed' before people just blew it over an were just pretty chill over it all? If anything, the movie critics would probably just shut all the haters down from bashing Ellie's character just because of THAT, which everybody knows is a ridiculous thing to do in the first place, so I'm not so worried. 'Cause in that world, labels and 'good/bad sides' don't apply to them anymore and the universal saying is pretty much "it's either US or THEM - what's it gonna be?"

But if they were to make it into a motion picture, I'm sure Neil would probably only do it if there were to be two to three movies, tops, likely splitting them between seasons or major arcs from the game (summer-fall, winter-spring). That way, everybody including the writers would have more flexible room to work with than just "one movie, two hours max" and scrapping out scenes or parts that will probably lead most viewers confused. (Since in this case, every choice Joel and Ellie lead from one solid point to the next without any plot holes on the way).

Yes, yes, i get it. People shouldn't judge Ellie simply because of her sexuality. But the fact is that IT WILL HAPPEN, and so why not avoid it? It isn't kind or tolerant, or even an important thing about the game, but even so, that doesn't erase the fact that it will happen and a lot of people WILL BE distracted by it, whether good or bad. Whether it's important or not. The Left Behind dlc totally supports my prediction. People went on and on about the kiss and the "controversy" or the "boldness" instead of other areas of the game. I will be deeply sorry if TLoU movies (hopefully series) gets the same treatment, whether people are wrong about it or not.

Sorry, but Ashley Johnson looks nothing like Ellie... and Ellen Page is too old for the role (thirty?)

    • Yeah.  So right now, it looks like Ellie might be played by Maisie Williams (which i find great), and Joel might be played by Bruce Campbell (not so great).

I am not sure if it's definite though.

    • Pretty sure that's just a preliminary poster used at Comic Con to advertise for the movie and panel. Obviously once the roles are filled, a different poster is gonna be used.

And it's not definite. She's just in the running, apparently read for the role, and they were impressed. Again, there isn't even a director yet. Ya'll need to just calm down a bit, lol.

    • ^ Yeah, they have merely been talking to her about the possibility oo her playing the role. But trust me, she is a great actress :)

Also, for all of the non-believers  (that she would be good as Ellie) remember that Uncharted movie that they wanted to make?    Anything can change, for the better and for the worse.

Personally I am not convinced by the producer, who hasn't really been involved in any overwhelmingly good movies and is known as a typical horror movie director (and I know that he won't direct the movie)...

It seems like they approached Maisie Williams about the role. And since she is the first actress that they mentioned playing Ellie, i guess that right now, it is very likely that she'll get the part.

I just really hope that they won't ruin the movie with cheap horror movie clichès...            And of course that the movie won't land in development hell like the Uncharted movie did...

Gear3ful: Yes, I love Maisie Williams and Arya :) Here role as Arya, especially this season, is pretty remarkably similar to Ellie, so it makes sense. As long as she can pull off an American accent.

And as far as Sam Raimi being producer... Most of the time a producer really doesn't do much more than oversee/coordinate certain things and provide funding. The director is really who is gonna make or break this movie.

Yeah, the american accent is the only thing that worries me...

I have to disagree with you about the producer thing, often the producers are very involved with the development of the movie.

For example, you would think that George Lucas was the director of the old Star Wars movie, but he wasn't, he was the writer and producer. My point is that nobody remembers the directors of the old Star Wars movies. Of course, you could argue that he is remembered for creating Star Wars and not for being the producer...

Well, i guess my point is that producers do have a huge influence on the development of a movie (usually, they are involved in the project for an even longer time than the director)

Ps: I read an article in which Sam Raimi said that Neil Druckmann wanted more changes from game to film than Raimi himself. Apparently, Raimi convinced Druckmann to stick to the original ending...   so maybe Raimi will put aside his cheap horro clichès for this movie  (at least i hope so)

    • Thinking about it, the accent that Ellie has in the game is a fairly easy one. She doesn't have a heavy accent, and i am quite sure that Maisie William woukd be able to learn it.

        Loading editor
    • What's so important about the accent?

        Loading editor
    • We need the accent! Do you even want to hear a British Ellie,I mean she'll sounded like Lara Croft by then. The point is,it's not like I hate British,it's just that it looks like if Ellie is not in her original aceent,it sounds like the actress is careless about the detail and is a form of harrassing towards the adaptation,I mean mocking, like she doesn't want to play her seriously.

Yeah, but my point is they're not invlolved with most of the creative stuff that we all care about. They basically coordinate all the stuff involved with getting a film actually made. He's not gonna be directing the actors (the director) or putting lines in their mouths (the writer.) And I don't really get your point about George Lucas, because he DID write and direct the original (1977) Star Wars movie (which means he created all the characters and world in the first place.) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1 .Some of the subsequent movies he wasn't as involved, but he was pretty much solely responsible for the much hallowed original that spawned the franchise, so yeah, not surprising fans remember him. So you kinda proved my point there.

I mean, the producer credit isn't even shown on IMDB next to the movie. Ya have to go all the way to "full credits" to even find out. I doubt you even know who produced most of your favorite films- I sure don't lol.

Sorry, my german imdb listed the original as "Kried der Sterne", the german title... that is why i didn't see it.     However, you can't deny that Luas still had a great deal of influence in the creating of the two (older) sequels. But ou are right about most producers not being as involved in the development as the director is.

My argument is solely based on certain producer who are outstandingly (not sure if this is a word...) involved in the development.   Personally, I was refering to the "great" producers, like Jerry Bruckheimer, Spielberg, Lucas (as mentioned before) or Brian Grazer...

Also, the only thing that can be seen on imdb's main page of a movie is writer and director. My point being that there are many, many more people involved in production. It is impossible for any director to be solely responsible for the whole movie...

While the director has the biggest impact on the movie (it is, after all, his vision of the story), he is not even close to the only one who has an impact on the movie.

But, in the end, i guess you've still disproven my argument :)

Ps: I actually know most of the producers of my favourite movies... (though to be fair, many directors and writers also act as producers)

Maybe the voice actress of Sarah too for Sarah. A lot of the voice actors/actress look like their character except from Joel and Ellie! • @EllieCroft,I hope that they would include the scene, but it's pretty much impossible to put the whole story of Left Behind in it,I mean the movie is like, maybe one and a half hour or two hour long so I'm not really sure about it,probably some little flashback would touch the audience feeling for the movie,I hope the scene would be there.

Yeah, the dlc is quite long so not all of the dlc in the film but I was thinking maybe Ellie sleeping and thinking of the water fight and the dancing and playing the game they played and then the kiss which switches to finding out that they were bit? Not the whole of the scenes in the dream but I was thinking about five seconds of each thing I just said and it would be skipping to each scene like in a trailer if you understand what I am trying to say? :-D

The major difference with that is Ellen's character then went through animation processes... if it were on the big screen, it'd be jsut her... with a lot of make-up i'm sure.

Chloe on the other hand is a lot closer to Ellie's age... shares many of her features... and she's a great actress.

I dont know about Maisie. She definitely doesnt look the part, but acting is really the most important thing here (unless they went ahead and got a blakc or asian actress for Ellie, then i DO have a problem with appearances lol)

So... acting first, then looks. I dont see how Chloe doesnt appease both sides.

    • @Arthas,agreed,she went through the animation processes in the game Beyond Two Souls while in the movie,it'd be just her.Arthas,Maisie is good with the actions and tomboy-ish things,Chloe is good with the actions too, she's cool, actually, only a bit feminine in some ways,Ellen, she kinda dispise ND since Ellie's first look at the first trailer looked like her,and she's old,but she got a lot of same futures of Ellie, pretty good with actions too,but it's hard when an actress hate the main core or one of the character in the storyline she's about to play. Now then, who of these awesome females be Ellie? Anyone wants to clarify one of them as her or search other actress?

    • I feel bad for crumbing on Ellen's age, lol! I don't know why. I hardly know her. Gosh. Haha!

Ok, Ellen is just like thirty, so she isn't old lol. I take that back, lest the good Lord choose to get back at me. I mean, she's still youthful and all, so... there...

What i mean is that Ellen isn't anythign like a teen now. The reason it worked with now 27 year old Ashley Johnson, is that we we never saw HER. We only saw Ellie. And i'm sure Ellen could "act"... the way Ashley did. I mean, Ashley isn't a teen either. But we'd still look at Ellen and think, "Why is a thirty year old playing a teenager? Trying to hold on to Juno much?"

      I would hate that.

Though people might say the same thing with Chloe with her role in Kickass, she is also closer to that age, has the acting chops, and pretty much perfectly looks the part. I mean, check out that photo in the upper posts.

      What do you guys think?

    • @Arthas,Chloe could've played Ellie, but do you think she'll accept a movie adaptation from a game? I got this numb feeling since game that turns into movies got bad histories...unless she truly knows The Last of Us got many rewards and is beautiful.

        Loading editor
    • I think if they offered the role to Chloe the only reason I could think of for her to turn it down would maybe be because it's a very similar role to what she's done before, and maybe she wants to avoid typecasting? But I think that she'd be a good fit. I don't agree though that Chloe looks much like Ellie. Their facial structures and coloring are pretty different. But at the end of the day, getting a great actress that doesn't have such a strong resemblance is better tha getting one that looks exactly like her but can't act the part very well.

      • Shakes head in disbelief*

I can't believe nobody sees resemblence in Chloe to Ellie.... just put red hair instead of blonde.

Anyway.... to be honest.... it doesnt matter who plays Ellie and Joel, as long as they do it perfectly (lol).

I just want a great series of movies, that's it. I want this thing to be done right. Without those numbskulls at Hollywood ruining it and cutting it and changing it for their *%#%@%# pockets. Like they did with World War Z (a VERY one-dimensional movie). Who ever heard of a PG-13 zombie film? Like, seriously?

Or taking the title and then creating a story that bears SO LITTLE resemblance to the original that they arent even similar (WWZ vs book, I Am Legend vs Book, etc, etc...)

    • Whilst yes Ashley Johnson is a tad to old to play Ellie in a TLOU movie, i can 100% see Troy as Joel. Remember its Hollywood, stage make-up, wigs/hair colourings plus actors changing their bodies for a role (MM in Dallas Buyers Club anyone) is the norm so he could easily do it.

        Loading editor
    • @Doctor-D666

I can totally see that happening. Troy does, in fact, share a lot of facial similarities with Joel. Sure, he's not buff per se and is far too blonde... as he is now... but Hollywood can totally redo his hair, get him on a work out, and have him grow a beard. He'd do great.

What WILL be hard is convincing him to do ALL those scenes again lol.... this time without Ashley.

      ~ Arthas Menethil

    • Another thought on Ashley in a TLOU movie.... Why not have her play Anna? Scenes could possibly be the birth of Ellie during the outbreak and her bonding with Ellie, to her writing the note that Joel finds in-game, to her eventual death. Now to me the birth could be another prologue scene during the opening credits whilst others could be flashbacks as Marlene talks to Ellie whilst she is prepped for surgery. Sure it wasn't shown in-game but it could easily be added. To me it would be a powerful little moment if that was shown.

        Loading editor
    • That's a good idea. I like that. We never get to see much of Anna, but this would be a way of introducing it. Obviously, since it's in movie form, we can't have a bunch of notes for the characters to read. These things will either have to play out or something. so this is good.

Okay, RDJ in Tropic Thunder isn't the example to bring up, since he didn't (and wasn't supposed to) look like a real black person in the movie. It was basically pointing out how offensive and racist changing actors races in movies is.

And facial prosthetics and make-up are incredibly time consuming and costly to do. Why have to transform your lead actors facial structure every day when you could, I dunno, get an actual person who looks like the character?

But having prosthetics on very much limits the acting abilities of the actors. The aren't able express themselves with their faces anymore. All of the muscles in the face are more or less impossible to accurately mimic with prosthetic masks.

Also, the only movie with really good prosthetics that I can think of is is The Lord Of the Rings. But still, the prosthetics help portraying dwarfs. Real human beings being portrayed with prosthetic masks would just be weird...

And i can't think of any movie with prosthetic masks which changed the who facial strucute and look of the actor...

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, and things like facial prosthetics are basically always used in movies to make an actor appear more un-human- like to make them look like an alien, or whatever. I can't really think of an example of a lead in a movie where facial prosthetics and heavy makeup were used to just make them look like a different but normal looking person (at least where that really worked well and didn't look cartoonish like the Tropic Thunder example.)

Rather than have nobody to watch the film because they don't really know anyone in it, because it has know one to sell it like Hugh Jackman or Vigo or any other suggestions

    • ^ But I'm not sure if he would take the part, since he played a similrar role in "Prisoners".  For example, in the movie, his daughter was kidnaped, and he basically tortures a simple minded man (of whom Hugh Jackman's believes that he  has got something to do with his daughter's disappearance). Anyway, a big theme in that movie, is how far one would would go to protect the people one loves. In the movie, Hugh Jackman even looks really similar to Joel...

Which admittedly if you're thinking of getting in to acting, not being willing to commit to physical transformations which INCLUDES the make-up process won't get you far just an fyi.

What I am trying to say is that it would work if something like dwarves are portrayed. But when a human is portrayed with a prosthetic mask, it looks fake.

There are many reasons why Troy Baker shouldn't star as Joel in the movie...     Seriously, have you ever seen a human being portrayed with a prosthetic mask in a movie?

At most Troy would need a nose and maybe some chin/neck shaping.

The point that I am trying to make is that actor has a cm thick mask on his face...               There is a reason why normal human beings aren't portrayed with prosthetic masks in movies (only when an actot has to play an older version of himself)

I ask you again, have you ever seen a human being be portrayed with a prosthetic mask in a movie?   (with an actor that didn't look much like the character?)

And Troy wouln't just need nose and chin shaping, his whole facial structure would need to be changed. Also, he would need wrinkles (like Joel).

I don't think this is a huge budget blockbuster movie. Having to put on even the facial prosthetics you suggest would take a lot of time. The phrase "time is money" is highly applicable to film sets. Having to have your lead actor sit in a makeup chair for hours as prosthetics are applied is a waste of a lot of time and money by stalling production until that makeup is applied. Not to mention, someone wearing a fake nose and stuff like contoured makeup just looks unnatural, especially when their face is prominently shown throughout the film. If that's the looks you're going for, then great. Doesn't fit the realism of TLOU.

    • Dylan McDermott for Joel. Looks just like him & could probably pull off the hardness. Remember, Joel is a brutal killer, who bashes umpteen people/infected to pieces with his bare hands. You need an actor who can bulk up & pull that off, in my opinion. It's also about the age. Joel was a young man when the outbreak kicked off & Sarah was 12. He would have been 28 minimum? He now needs to be just in his late 40's / early fifties (twenty years later). Any older and i don't think you could pull off being capable of murderising all the younger folk. Dylan McD is 53

I can see Dylan McDermott pulling off a good Texas accent as well. Also, check out the scene at The Hydroelectric plant where he tells Tommy he doesn't want the photo. Looks like they just used Dylan McDermott for that anyway!

He just won't come across as very imposing or tough - Joel's two main features ;) Give him his dues, he can pull it off in voice & acting chops, but Joel in a film is going to be a lot about the physical stature & the Indiana Jones "ain't the years, it's the mileage" kind of life experience.

Yeah, I mean, ND almost wrote Troy off initially because he didn't look at all like Joel. So... why would they cast him to play the character in the movie? Not to mention, he's a good decade too young, and looks about 2 decades too young (seriously, dude looks like he's 27.) There are plenty of talented (hell, MORE talented than Troy- it's not like his talent is so vast and unmatchable) actors out there who look a lot more like Joel and are the right age. I know people don't like change, especially when it involves beloved characters, but Troy is not the right fit to play Joel on the big screen just as Ashley obviously wouldn't be the right fit for Elllie.

Chloe Grace Moretz should act as Ellie, I think Ellie looks more like Chloe than Maisie. Just my opinion

I think that Chloe is too big a star for the role. More importantly, I think that she would bring expectations about the role from the character of Hit Girl in the Kick Ass franchise that may not be met and would confuse some newer fans.

    • as so as a director, Cary Fukunaga because of the first season of True Detective who was amazing (and because i still have a little crush on him). Michael Haneke could be a very interesting choice. The relationship Joel/Ellie would certainly be incredible. Unfortunately I can't imagine him directing scenes with hunters or infected.

Hugh Jackman of course as Joel

      Millie Bobby Brown as Ellie

Tristan Wilds as Henry because he i adored him as Michael in The Wire.

Caleb McLaughlin as Sam (and because he already know Millie)

keep W. Earl Brown as Bill. (also adored him in Deadwood)

Adrien Brody as David. John Hawkes would be fine too and he has already worked with W. Earl Brown on Deadwood.

      maybe Charlie Hunnam as Tommy

Sherlyn Lee as Maria (maybe a little too old) or Naomi Watts

also keep Annie Wersching and Merle Danridge as Tess and Marlene.

      Amandla Stenberg as Riley

Alyvia Alyn Lind as Sarah (she's only 10 years old and don't know no idea if she good actress)
