The Last of Us is a musical composition by Gustavo Santaolalla for the third-person horror shooter game The Last of Us. It was originally released online on December 13, 2011, to coincide with the announcement that Gustavo Santaolalla would be scoring the game.[1] It was officially released, along with the rest of the music from the game, as part of The Last of Us Original Soundtrack on June 11 2013.[2]

HistoryEdit

The Last of Us writer and creative director, Neil Druckmann, has said that the game's music is aimed at emotion, not horror, and that its focus is the relationship between Joel and Ellie.[3]

CompositionEdit

The piece is written in a compound time signature in the key of E minor. It is lead by a ronroco playing arpeggiated chords, and features percussion in the background.[1]

ReleaseEdit

The track was released, along with the rest of the music from the game, as part of The Last of Us Original Soundtrack on June 11, 2013.[4] It will also be released on Sony's on-demand music service Music Unlimited, although a release date has not yet been given.[5]
