Similar in some ways to Jack of All Trades, Lone Wolf offers a bargain price package of useful skills to the player. However, Lone Wolf only activates when the user is far away from his or her teammates. It is a great skill to use while in Last Stand, or for flanking classes. While the extra skills gained from fewer loadout points is a powerful advantage, playing far away from teammates means that there is no one to help users if they are downed or under pressure. Additionally, players need to be quite some distance away from teammates in order for Lone Wolf to activate; on smaller maps, this is almost impossible to guarantee, and (without communication with other players) it can be difficult to stay far away enough from them.
The major downside of this skill is that users will be forced to neglect their team to get the most out of this skill. This is at its worst if a team member is using a support class equipped with skills like Crafter 2 or 3 and First-Aid Training 2 or 3 as these skills commonly result in the user trying to stay close to teammates. This could result in a dysfunctional team, making using Lone Wolf a hindrance rather than a benefit.
Lone Wolf is best used in Survivors mode, where players most often find themselves as the last person standing on their team and thus are guaranteed to enjoy the bonuses this skill provides. It's the least useful in Interrogation mode, where teammates respawn an unlimited number of times and teamwork is more important.
As Lone Wolf is only useful when players are far from teammates, it works well with Covert Training 2 or 3, which allows players to remain hidden when crouching, enabling players to effectively flank enemy teams without fear of detection. Silenced weapons would also serve well, particularly the Bow, Specter or Crossbow.
